Key Moves & Abilities

Energized Blade(Gallade ex)
70

This attack does 20 more damage for each Energy attached to your opponent's Active Pokémon.

Strategy Guide

Auto-generated

Gallade ex deals 70 base damage that scales by 20 for each energy attached to the opponent's active Pokemon, punishing energy-heavy decks and ex attackers with large energy requirements. The win condition is attacking into energy-loaded targets for massive single-hit damage.

Open by playing Skull Fossil to establish a 40-HP Basic placeholder on the bench while Ralts and Kirlia evolve toward Gallade ex. Rare Candy in the deck can accelerate the evolution line, jumping directly from Ralts to Gallade ex and skipping Kirlia. Once Gallade ex attacks, calculate how many energies are on the opponent's active — every attached energy adds 20 damage on top of the 70 base. Arena of Antiquity boosts all fighting-type attacks by 20 against opponent's active ex Pokemon, stacking on top of Korrina's +30 bonus. Giant Cape adds 20 HP to the attached Pokemon for extra durability. Cyrus pulls one of the opponent's damaged benched Pokemon into the Active Spot, setting up Gallade ex for a follow-up knockout.

Strengths

  • Energized Blade's scaling means it punishes the most common win conditions in the format — ex attackers that load multiple energies.
  • 75% win rates against Jumpluff ex, Koraidon ex, and Mewtwo ex confirm dominance into energy-intensive meta decks.
  • Rare Candy in the deck gives the evolution line speed options for a Stage 2, reducing the turns needed to get Gallade ex into action.

Weaknesses

  • Losing Gallade ex gives the opponent 2 points, almost certainly ending the game from a points-deficit standpoint.ex KO
  • Against opponents who attach only 1-2 energies before attacking, Energized Blade deals only 90-110 damage — insufficient to OHKO many targets.Matchup
  • Stage 2 evolution from Ralts through Kirlia to Gallade ex is slow; later evolutions must come from draw (Professor's Research, Copycat) or Rare Candy.Consistency
  • 25% win rate against Mimikyu ex, Annihilape, and Espeon ex shows vulnerability to psychic-type or high-aggression counter strategies.Matchup

How to Play

Attack When the Opponent Is Fully Energized

Delay Gallade ex's first attack if the opponent's active has fewer than 3 energies — the damage boost is insufficient to secure a KO. Let the opponent charge up, then attack for maximum damage. Cyrus can pull a damaged benched Pokemon into the Active Spot while you wait. Gallade ex's 1-retreat cost makes it easy to promote and retreat as needed.

Accelerate Evolution with Rare Candy and Korrina

Run Rare Candy to jump directly from Ralts to Gallade ex, skipping the Stage 1 entirely. Korrina boosts fighting-type damage by 30 against ex Pokemon for one turn. Skull Fossil plays as a 40-HP Basic placeholder on the bench while the evolution chain completes. Copycat and Professor's Research fill your hand with key pieces.

How to Beat This Deck

Attack with Minimal Energy Attachment

Gallade ex scales with the opponent's energy count. Decks that attack for 1-2 energies cap Energized Blade at 90-110 damage — often not enough for a KO. Single-energy attackers or those with acceleration abilities that attach multiple energies all at once then attack minimize the window for Gallade ex to see a juicy target.

Remove Energies Before Gallade ex Attacks

If the active Pokemon loses its attached energies through switch-and-reattach, retreat, or a trainer effect before Gallade ex attacks, the scaling bonus collapses. Forcing the opponent to retreat and reattach wastes their energy development turns and keeps Energized Blade's damage in the ineffective range.

Score 2 Points on Gallade ex Quickly

Gallade ex has 170 HP but gives 2 points on KO. Psychic-type attackers or others with type advantage can reach the KO threshold before Gallade ex gets multiple attacks off. With Gallade ex needing 2-3 turns to assemble from Ralts, pressuring the bench during setup phases can disrupt the entire game plan.

Common Substitutions

Secondary attacker

  • Rampardos:High-damage rock-type backup attacker that must be drawn naturally; Head Smash deals 130 damage but also deals 50 to itself on a KO.

Evolution acceleration

  • Rare Candy:Speeds up the Gallade ex evolution line; run the maximum count to maximize Gallade ex's speed.
