Once during your turn, when you put this Pokémon from your hand onto your Bench, you may switch it with your Active Pokémon. If you do, move all of your Energy in play to this Pokémon.
Miraidon ex wins by loading every Lightning Energy in play onto itself via Legendary Drive, then sweeping with Hadron Ray for 20 plus 20 per Lightning Energy attached. The Magnezone line supports the build as a Stage 2 component that draws the deck toward a fully loaded Miraidon ex.
Open by benching Magnemite alongside Miraidon ex, using Poke Ball to secure both basics and Professor's Research to dig toward Magneton and Magnezone. The turn-1 player cannot attack, so spend that turn placing Energy and drawing aggressively with Copycat or Clemont. Once Magnezone evolves, continue building Lightning Energy on your bench. When Miraidon ex hits the bench, Legendary Drive triggers — switch it active and pull all Energy onto it. Lisia finds key cards mid-game, and Professor Turo returns a damaged Miraidon ex to hand to deny opponent points and redeploy fresh.
Active Pokemon
Hadron Ray base 20 + 20 per Lightning Energy attached
Five Lightning Energy attached = 120 total; eight Lightning Energy = 180, reaching most one-shot thresholds
Use Professor's Research and Copycat to draw into Magneton and Magnezone as quickly as possible. Rare Candy is not listed in the top build, so the evolution line must be drawn naturally. Clemont and Lisia fill gaps. The faster Magnezone is on the bench, the more turns you have to build toward a fully charged Miraidon ex.
Play Miraidon ex from hand while it sits on the bench — Legendary Drive fires immediately, moving every Energy in play to it and switching it active. This converts several turns of distributed Energy attachment into a single massive Hadron Ray attack. Professor Turo bounces a damaged Miraidon ex back to restart the engine if the first sweep falls short.
Flareon ex, Infernape ex, and Incineroar ex each hold a 75% win rate against Miraidon ex. Lightning-type Pokemon carry a Fire weakness, so even modest Fire damage gets amplified. Maintaining a Fire attacker is the simplest, highest-percentage counter available against this archetype.
Miraidon ex's damage output depends entirely on Energy count built up over multiple turns. Keeping Magnemite or Magneton from evolving — through damage or bench disruption — limits the support line and slows the Energy snowball from reaching KO thresholds.
Cyrus forces Miraidon ex to become the active attacker before the Energy stack is ready, locking Hadron Ray at low damage. Sabrina also forces Miraidon ex active from the bench. Either play disrupts the setup timing and forces a suboptimal Hadron Ray before it can one-shot your attackers.
