This attack also does 10 damage to each of your opponent's Benched Pokémon.
Articuno ex spreads 10 damage to every Benched Pokemon with Blizzard while applying Cyrus to strand the opponent's Active, building a point lead through attrition. The win condition is using that accumulated bench damage to score multiple 1-point knockouts on follow-up turns.
Open with Articuno ex in the Active Spot, using Irida and Professor's Research to accelerate three Water Energy onto it. Once powered, Blizzard hits the Active for 80 and peppers each Benched Pokemon for 10 per turn. Mid-game, Cyrus keeps a damaged target stuck Active while bench damage stacks. In closing turns, Guzma or Silver can pull specific weakened targets forward for point-scoring knockouts, with Giant Cape and Lucky Ice Pop extending Articuno ex's longevity.
Opponent's Active Pokemon
Blizzard base 80 damage
Requires 3 Water Energy to fire
Each Benched Pokemon
Blizzard spread 10 damage per turn
Accumulates over multiple turns; 5 Blizzards reach 50 on each Benched target
Irida provides water-type search and energy support to reach the three-energy threshold for Blizzard as quickly as possible. Pair with Professor's Research for draw. Starting Plains can ensure a smooth opener. The sooner Blizzard fires, the faster bench damage accumulates across the opponent's team.
After landing Blizzard once, use Cyrus to prevent the damaged Active from retreating. This forces the opponent to take repeated Blizzard hits while their Bench also absorbs 10 per turn. Over several turns the cumulative bench damage opens knockouts on otherwise healthy Pokemon without needing a direct attack.
Blizzard punishes wide benches: the more Pokemon you bench, the more targets receive 10 damage each turn. Keeping only one or two Pokemon on the bench minimises total spread accumulation and slows Articuno ex's ability to set up multi-knockout turns.
Articuno ex is a water type and takes increased damage from fire attacks. Deploying fire-type attackers forces the Articuno ex player into an unfavorable exchange: they must score two knockouts to answer the 2-point threat while a single fire KO on Articuno ex awards 2 points immediately.
Articuno ex is offline until it has three Water Energy. Red Card reshuffles the opponent's hand, and Copycat-based hand-size pressure can delay the energy ramp needed for Blizzard. Every turn Articuno ex is limited to Ice Wing (40 damage, 2 energy) is a turn the bench damage clock is not running.
