Flareon ex leverages its Combust ability to recycle discarded Fire Energy back onto itself and fuels repeated 130-damage Fire Spin attacks, aiming to knock out opposing ex Pokémon for 2 points each. The Eevee engine provides a flexible lineup of secondary attackers from the same Basic.
Open by benching Eevee and using Poké Ball to find additional Basics. Combust lets you re-attach a Fire Energy from the discard pile each turn at the cost of 20 damage to Flareon ex itself; Pokémon Center Lady can heal 30 of that self-damage back, while Training Area boosts Stage 1 attack damage by 10 if it is in play. Mid-game, Fire Spin hits for 130 damage and discards 2 Fire Energy, which Combust immediately begins refueling. Closing turns chain Fire Spin knockouts on ex targets while Leafeon ex or Eevee ex handle matchups where Flareon ex is unfavorable.

After each Fire Spin, Combust re-attaches one Fire Energy from the discard. Pokémon Center Lady heals 30 damage, directly counteracting Combust's 20 self-damage and keeping Flareon ex healthy across multiple loops. Training Area's +10 boost to Stage 1 attacks also pushes Fire Spin damage higher when in play.
Eevee Bag gives you a choice each turn: deal +10 damage to your Eevee-evolution attacks or heal 20 damage from each of your Eevee-evolution Pokémon. This dual utility supports Flareon ex offensively or defensively. Eevee ex's Veevee 'volve ability lets it evolve into any Eevee-evolution, while Leafeon ex provides a grass-type threat when the matchup calls for it.
Flareon ex is fire type and weak to water. Water attackers deal increased damage, meaning they can KO Flareon ex in fewer hits than standard. Since Combust chips Flareon ex's own HP every turn, a water attacker can threaten a KO sooner than Flareon ex's 150 HP suggests.
Pokémon Center Lady is the deck's primary answer to Combust self-damage. Use Cyrus to force a damaged benched opponent Pokémon into the Active spot, or Sabrina to send the opponent's Active to the bench so their preferred attacker loses momentum — either play leaves Flareon ex accumulating Combust damage without a safe heal window.
The deck runs Eevee, Leafeon ex, and Eevee ex alongside Flareon ex. Non-ex attackers that score 1-point knockouts on Eevee buy time; meanwhile, landing a KO on any of the ex variants earns 2 points and narrows the attacker pool.
