Strategy Guide

Auto-generated

Victreebel wins by using its Fragrance Trap ability to force the opponent's weakest benched Basic into the Active spot, then scoring easy knockouts for points. The strategy exploits opponents who rely on fragile Basic support Pokémon sitting on the bench.

Open with Bellsprout and use Poké Ball to find it if needed. Evolve toward Victreebel through natural draw from Professor's Research, Copycat, and Rare Candy. Once Victreebel is Active, trigger Fragrance Trap each turn to pull the opponent's most vulnerable benched Basic forward. Vine Whip at 60 damage finishes those targets efficiently. Pheromosa and Lilligant provide additional attacking options while the trap ability resets each turn to keep the opponent off their preferred attacker.

Strengths

  • Fragrance Trap forces any benched Basic into the Active spot, bypassing the opponent's choice of attacker entirely.
  • Targeting weak benched Basics worth only 1 point each lets you score 3 knockouts without ever facing the opponent's primary threat.
  • The deck runs no ex Pokémon, so every KO your opponent scores is worth only 1 point — they need 3 separate KOs to win.

Weaknesses

  • Magnezone, Greninja, and Skeledirge all win 75% against this deck; their damage output or ability disruption directly counters the trap plan.Matchup
  • If the opponent's bench contains only evolved Pokémon, Fragrance Trap cannot activate; the deck's entire win condition stops functioning.Deckbuilding
  • Victreebel is a Stage 2 with a very thin line in the top build; losing it early leaves no recovery path and the trap plan collapses.Consistency

How to Play

Trigger Fragrance Trap to Control the Active Spot

Keep Victreebel in the Active spot every turn to access Fragrance Trap. Identify the opponent's weakest benched Basic — supporter Pokémon, small HP basics, or underpowered setup pieces — and drag it forward. Use Vine Whip at 60 damage to knock it out immediately or reduce it enough for a follow-up attack. Fragrance Trap resets each of your turns, so use it before attacking.

Support the Evolution Line with Draw and Rare Candy

Bellsprout must survive to evolve; use Erika and Lillie for early draw to find Rare Candy and Weepinbell from natural hand progression. Pokémon Communication can swap Pokémon in hand. Fragrant Forest and Quick-Grow Extract provide additional setup consistency. Without Victreebel in play, the deck has no meaningful win condition beyond basic attacks.

How to Beat This Deck

Fill the Bench Only with Evolved Pokémon

Fragrance Trap specifically targets benched Basic Pokémon. If you evolve everything on your bench before Victreebel activates, the ability has no valid targets and simply cannot be used. Keeping bench-sitters evolved, or running a purely evolved-attacker lineup, completely shuts down the deck's primary win condition.

One-Shot Victreebel Before It Attacks

Victreebel has 140 HP and is a non-ex Stage 2 worth only 1 point. High-damage attackers like Magnezone can knock it out in one hit before Fragrance Trap can fire. Since the deck's evolution line is thin, losing Victreebel often means the opponent has no way to replace it and the game swings decisively.

CountersMagnezone

Apply Bench Damage to Remove Target Basics Early

Greninja-style bench damage can remove the very Basic Pokémon that Victreebel would aim to trap, denying the easy 1-point knockouts. If the opponent's bench is cleared of Basics by your own damage spread, Fragrance Trap either cannot activate or targets a tougher Pokémon, reducing the efficiency of Vine Whip's 60 damage.

Common Substitutions

Secondary attacker

  • Pheromosa:Provides a non-ex attacker that scores 1 point on KO, keeping the 1-point denial strategy consistent.
  • Lilligant:Additional grass attacker; gives the deck an extra threat if Victreebel is knocked out.

Setup support

  • Celebi:Single copy in the top build; provides additional grass type coverage or early pressure.
