Strengths

  • Innards Out punishes every ex attacker that swings — a 2-point attacker takes 50 chip damage just for scoring a knockout.
  • Non-ex Pokemon board means opponents often score only 1 point per knockout, requiring three separate knockouts to win.
  • Favorable into Gourgeist, Magcargo, and Houndstone at 75%, covering several popular stall and spread archetypes.

Weaknesses

  • Castform Sunny Form (29%) and Serperior (34%) can one-shot from range or avoid triggering Innards Out cleanly.Matchup
  • Pyukumuku has only 60 HP; any attack exceeding 60 prevents Innards Out from triggering at all.Other
  • Red Card forces the opponent to shuffle and draw 3 cards, which can refuel their hand rather than reliably preventing a follow-up knockout.Consistency

Key Moves & Abilities

AbilityInnards Out(Pyukumuku)
If this Pokémon is in the Active Spot and is Knocked Out by damage from an attack from your opponent's Pokémon, do 50 damage to the Attacking Pokémon.

Strategy Guide

Auto-generated

Pyukumuku weaponizes its own death: Innards Out deals 50 damage to any attacker that knocks it out in the Active Spot. The win condition is baiting large ex attackers into repeated Innards Out triggers while Cramorant and Tatsugiri clean up the survivors.

Open by filling the bench with Mantyke, Manaphy, Cramorant, and other small basics using Poke Ball, then work Pyukumuku into the Active Spot. Pyukumuku's Sprinkle Water for 20 is not the point — you want the opponent to swing into it. Mid-game, use Elemental Switch to move energy from a benched Pokemon onto your Active, and Inflatable Boat to reduce retreat costs when cycling Pyukumuku back in after Innards Out fires, stacking 50-damage bursts onto the same attacker across multiple turns. Sabrina sends the opponent's current Active to their bench, letting your opponent bring in a fresh Pokemon — use this to manipulate which of their threats is in the Active Spot. Guzma strips all Tool cards from each of the opponent's Pokemon, denying defensive tools.

Damage Math

Any attacking Pokemon that KOs Pyukumuku

Innards Out 50 damage (fixed)

Triggers once per knockout; stack across turns by cycling multiple Pyukumuku or healing the attacker back into range.

How to Play

Cycle Pyukumuku to Stack Chip Damage

Each Innards Out trigger applies 50 damage to the attacker. Use Elemental Switch to move energy from a benched Pokemon onto your Active Pyukumuku before it is knocked out. After a knockout, Tatsugiri's Rally Back deals 80 damage on the following turn, letting Cramorant or Tatsugiri finish what Innards Out started.

Deny Points with a Non-ex Wall

Every Pokemon in this build except Palkia is a regular Pokemon worth only 1 point. Opponents need three separate knockouts to win. Inflatable Boat reduces retreat cost by 1 for the attached water Pokemon, and Lucky Ice Pop heals 20 damage from your Active. Misty and Manaphy accelerate water energy so Palkia is ready to clean up when Innards Out has softened the field.

How to Beat This Deck

KO Pyukumuku with Bench Damage

Innards Out only activates when the attacker deals the final knockout hit to the Active Spot Pyukumuku. Bench-targeting attacks bypass the ability entirely. Spread damage that knocks out Pyukumuku from the bench denies all 50 retaliatory damage.

Use High-HP Attackers to Absorb Innards Out

A 200+ HP Mega ex absorbs multiple Innards Out procs without reaching lethal thresholds. Each Pyukumuku represents only 50 chip damage. If your attacker can survive two or three Innards Out triggers, the deck's attrition plan completely breaks down.

Apply Poison or Passive Damage to Pyukumuku

Status conditions that knock out Pyukumuku between turns rather than via an attack do not trigger Innards Out. Poison-inflicting attacks that accumulate damage at the end of each turn bypass the ability and deny the 50-damage retaliation entirely.

Common Substitutions

Water energy acceleration

  • Misty:Flips coins to attach multiple water energies at once; critical for charging Palkia quickly.
  • Manaphy:Uses Oceanic Gift to take water energy from the Energy Zone and attach it to two benched Pokemon at once.
