Strategy Guide

Auto-generated

Galvantula is a 80-HP Stage 1 lightning attacker that deals 70 damage and either Paralyzes the opponent's Active or traps it from retreating, creating hard locks that let you score points without trading hits. The deck wins by combining Galvantula's control effects with Darkrai and Igglybuff disruption to deny the opponent meaningful turns.

Start by placing Joltik with Poke Ball and using Copycat or Professor's Research to evolve into Galvantula quickly. In the mid-game choose between the Paralysis version's Electric Shock to lock the opponent's Active in place for a full turn, or the Electroweb version to trap it from retreating while you attack freely. Darkrai on the bench adds damage pressure, and Igglybuff can disrupt the opponent's hand. Training Area accelerates energy, while Guzma, Cyrus, and Lisia provide additional disruption and board control.

Strengths

  • Electric Shock Paralyzes the opponent's Active Pokemon, effectively skipping their attack entirely for one turn.
  • 70 damage with two lightning energy KOs most 60-80 HP basics and Stage 1s in a single hit.
  • Zero retreat cost on the Electric Shock variant means you can freely swap Galvantula in and out without energy loss.

Weaknesses

  • Electric Shock discards all attached energy, forcing you to re-energize each turn after using Paralysis.Tempo
  • 80 HP is low and Galvantula is a non-ex Stage 1, making it vulnerable to being one-hit KO'd by most strong attackers.Deckbuilding
  • Vivillon and Hydreigon hard-counter this deck with win rates above 68%, suggesting type or ability mismatches.Matchup

How to Play

Lock Opponents with Paralysis

Use the Electric Shock Galvantula to Paralyze the opponent's Active Pokemon, denying their attack for one turn. Even though all energy discards, if the opponent is knocked out on the following turn you net a point while they score zero. Training Area and Mars help reload energy and disrupt hand recovery.

Trap and Punish with Electroweb

The Electroweb variant traps the opponent's Active so it cannot retreat. Pair this with Guzma or Sabrina effects to drag up a specific target, lock it in place, and have Darkrai or another bench attacker threaten additional damage. This creates a scenario where the opponent cannot reposition to a safer Active.

How to Beat This Deck

Exploit Galvantula's Low HP

At 80 HP, Galvantula is knocked out by virtually any meta attacker in one hit. Fast decks that can attack before Galvantula sets up Paralysis or Electroweb will outscore it on points since each Galvantula KO still only gives 1 point.

Use High-Retreat or Retreat-Immune Effects

Electroweb only traps Pokemon that would otherwise be able to retreat. Tools or abilities that grant free retreat or immunity to retreat restrictions nullify this lock entirely. X Speed or equivalent trainer support in your own deck removes the trap on your turn.

Strip Paralysis with Bench Switching

Paralysis from Electric Shock applies to the Active Pokemon at the end of the opponent's turn. If you have a benched Pokemon with free retreat ready to swap in before you attempt an attack, the Paralysis resolves without denying your turn. Maintaining a free-retreat bench option neutralizes Electric Shock's biggest threat.

Common Substitutions

Disruption / bench damage

  • Darkrai:Bench-sitting threat that contributes damage without occupying the Active slot.
  • Igglybuff:Hand disruption that pressures opponent resources while Galvantula locks the Active.
