Strategy Guide

Auto-generated

Empoleon wins by combining 80 damage Active hits with 30 bench damage from Aqua Jet to score multiple points simultaneously. The goal is to pressure both the Active and a high-value Benched target in the same turn.

Open by placing Piplup and using Professor's Research or Copycat to dig for Prinplup and Empoleon, since Poke Ball can only fetch the Basic Piplup. Once Empoleon is Active mid-game, Aqua Jet at [Water,Water,Colorless] deals 80 to the Active and 30 to a chosen Bench target every turn. In the finishing stretch, direct the 30 bench damage toward any weakened enemy that would score a point on KO, converting a single attack into a two-point swing. Irida, Cyrus, and the healing suite of Pokemon Center Lady, Big Malasada, Sitrus Berry, and Potion keep Empoleon alive long enough to chain multiple Aqua Jet turns.

Damage Math

Active + Bench split

Aqua Jet base 80 (Active) + 30 (Bench) = 110 total output per turn

Bench target is your choice; direct 30 to any Benched Pokemon already damaged to set up a follow-up KO

Strengths

  • Aqua Jet hits both zones at once, threatening multi-point turns without needing extra attackers.
  • HP 150 on a non-ex attacker means your opponent scores only 1 point on KO, keeping the points race favorable.
  • Favorable into Teal Mask Ogerpon ex (66%) and Skeledirge (62%), covering real meta threats.

Weaknesses

  • Stage 2 line (Piplup → Prinplup → Empoleon) is slow; one disrupted early turn can stall the whole gameplan.Consistency
  • Gholdengo ex, Magnezone, and Gourgeist all hold the deck to 25% win rate, leaving large meta gaps.Matchup
  • Only 4 tournament lists provide a thin sample; true win-rate stability is unconfirmed.Other

How to Play

Assemble the Empoleon Line Quickly

Use Poke Ball on turn 1 to secure Piplup. From there, rely on Professor's Research and Copycat to draw into Prinplup and Empoleon, since no search trainer in this list fetches evolved Pokemon. Irida provides additional support. Getting Empoleon Active by turn 3 or 4 is the minimum viable tempo.

Split Aqua Jet Damage to Create Multi-Point Threats

Each Aqua Jet turn places 30 damage on a Bench Pokemon of your choice. Over two or three turns, you can chip a Benched target into KO range while the Active takes 80. Time the final Aqua Jet so the Bench ping finishes a damaged target in the same turn you KO the Active, scoring 2 points at once.

Sustain Empoleon with the Healing Suite

Empoleon at 150 HP can survive multiple hits if you apply healing each turn. Pokemon Center Lady, Big Malasada, Sitrus Berry, and Potion spread across the deck let you recover enough damage to keep Empoleon attacking for a decisive third or fourth turn rather than retreating to a backup attacker.

How to Beat This Deck

Disrupt the Stage 2 Evolution Chain

Empoleon can only attack after a three-stage evolution. Apply early aggression to KO Piplup or Prinplup before Empoleon hits the field. Because no search trainer in this list fetches Stage 1 or Stage 2 Pokemon directly, a single disrupted evolution turn can delay Empoleon by two or more turns and hand you the points race.

Target the Bench to Negate Aqua Jet Routing

Empoleon's value comes from directing the 30 Bench damage freely. If you keep your Bench stripped down to one or two Pokemon with high HP, the Bench ping rarely reaches KO thresholds. Reduce your bench footprint and deny the deck its multi-zone damage turns.

Apply Lightning or Grass Type Pressure

Water-type Pokemon are typically weak to Lightning or Grass. Leading with a Lightning-type attacker can threaten a KO in fewer energy attachments than Empoleon needs to respond, punishing the deck's slow setup window before the Stage 2 comes online.

Common Substitutions

Healing support

  • Pokemon Center Lady:Primary healing trainer; recovers damage to extend Empoleon's active turns
  • Potion:Lower ceiling than Pokemon Center Lady but costs no supporter slot
  • Sitrus Berry:Passive healing attached as a tool; stacks with other healing options
