Strengths

  • Tapu Koko ex is a Basic, so it can attack turn 2 (as second player) with no evolution setup required.
  • Plasma Hurricane self-charges energy, reducing reliance on external attachment and making Electric Generator a bonus rather than a requirement.
  • 75% favorable matchups against Whimsicott ex, Vanilluxe, and Lycanroc ex show strong performance against slower or lower-HP builds.

Weaknesses

  • As an ex Pokemon, Tapu Koko ex gives the opponent 2 points on KO — losing it sets you close to defeat.ex KO
  • Mach Bolt costs 3 energy and only deals 90 damage; bulky ex Pokemon require multiple hits to KO.Tempo
  • Ground-type attackers and Charizard ex (25% win rate) threaten one-shots that outpace the charging setup.Matchup

Strategy Guide

Auto-generated

Tapu Koko ex self-charges energy with Plasma Hurricane, then unloads Mach Bolt for 90 damage once three energy are attached. The win condition is accumulating energy fast enough to attack every turn while Miraidon ex and Raikou ex provide backup firepower.

Open by placing Tapu Koko ex active and using Plasma Hurricane to deal 20 damage while pulling a Lightning energy from the Energy Zone onto itself. Electric Generator accelerates this further. After two or three turns you reach three energy and can fire Mach Bolt for 90. Mid-game, Supporting Miraidon ex and Raikou ex on the bench ensure coverage if Tapu Koko ex is knocked out. Pichu provides an early Basic to stall. Electrical Cord and Starting Plains give additional utility, while Giant Cape and Rocky Helmet protect Tapu Koko ex during the charging phase.

Damage Math

Plasma Hurricane ramp into Mach Bolt

Plasma Hurricane 20 dmg + Energy Zone attach; Mach Bolt 90 dmg once at 3 energy

Two Plasma Hurricane turns plus one Electric Generator attachment can reach 3 energy by turn 3

How to Play

Ramp Energy with Plasma Hurricane and Electric Generator

Start Plasma Hurricane turn 2 to deal 20 damage and pull one Lightning energy from the Energy Zone. Pair with Electric Generator to reach 3 energy in as few turns as possible. Once Mach Bolt is online, you deal 90 every turn at a 3-energy threshold — use Professor Turo to refresh the hand if energy attachment stalls.

Use Miraidon ex and Raikou ex as Backup Attackers

With Tapu Koko ex as the primary attacker, bench Miraidon ex and Raikou ex as follow-up threats. If Tapu Koko ex is knocked out for 2 opponent points, immediately counter-attack with a pre-charged backup to reclaim tempo. Electrical Cord and Cyrus let you manipulate the board to set up the cleanest retaliatory KO on the opponent's best attacker.

How to Beat This Deck

KO Tapu Koko ex During the Charging Phase

Before Tapu Koko ex reaches 3 energy, it can only deal 20 damage. At 130 HP, targeted burst attackers can eliminate it early for 2 points. Mewtwo ex and Dialga ex decks (25% win rates against this deck) succeed precisely because they can one-shot or two-shot Tapu Koko ex before Mach Bolt is online.

Drain Energy with Disruption Trainers

Tapu Koko ex's damage output depends entirely on reaching 3 attached energy. Trainers that shuffle energy off the active Pokemon or reset the attachment count delay Mach Bolt by one or more full turns. Each disrupted turn is a turn Tapu Koko ex deals only 20 damage, which is insufficient to threaten most ex targets.

Ignore Tapu Koko ex and Threaten the Bench

Miraidon ex and Raikou ex on the bench are also ex Pokemon. If you can use Sabrina to drag one up for a KO, you score 2 points from a Pokemon that has not yet charged. This forces the Tapu Koko ex player to defend their bench rather than attack, breaking the charging rhythm entirely.

Common Substitutions

Energy acceleration

  • Electric Generator:Provides extra energy attachment beyond Plasma Hurricane, speeding up Mach Bolt turns.
  • Electrical Cord:Allows redirecting energy from the bench to a new active attacker after a KO.

  • Raikou ex:Additional ex attacker providing coverage and forcing the opponent to manage two threats.
