Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 50 more damage.
Sceptile aims to reach Stage 2 as quickly as possible and score knockouts with Leaf Blade, which hits 70 normally and 120 on a heads flip. The deck uses Fragrant Forest and Quick-Grow Extract to accelerate energy attachment and maximize Leaf Blade's damage output.
Open by playing Treecko and digging for Grovyle through Professor's Research or Copycat; Poké Ball can find Treecko but not its evolutions. Quick-Grow Extract and Fragrant Forest accelerate grass energy onto your bench while Sceptile develops. Once Sceptile is active, every Leaf Blade is a live threat: 70 guaranteed, with a coin flip for 120. Cyrus can redirect dangerous threats, and Celebi or utility basics like Pheromosa and Kartana cover early turns before Sceptile is ready.
Leaf Blade on a tails flip
base 70 + 0 = 70
Two-shot range on most non-ex Pokemon
Leaf Blade on a heads flip
base 70 + 50 = 120
One-shots most Stage 1 and Stage 2 non-ex Pokemon; threatens low-HP ex targets
Play Fragrant Forest on the first turn you can and use Quick-Grow Extract to stack grass energy. The faster Sceptile reaches two energy, the sooner Leaf Blade threatens 70-plus damage. Rare Candy, when included, lets you skip Grovyle entirely to speed up the evolution line.
Before Sceptile is ready, Pheromosa and Kartana can contest early turns and buy time. They are non-ex basics that score your opponent only 1 point each if knocked out, protecting your setup while you dig for Grovyle and Sceptile through Professor's Research and Copycat.
Cyrus switches your opponent's dangerous active into the bench, buying Sceptile a free attack into a weaker target. This is especially useful against high-HP ex threats that would otherwise survive Leaf Blade on a tails flip and deal heavy damage in return.
Sceptile needs two evolution steps from Treecko. Spend your first several turns dealing damage to the evolving line on the bench or pressuring the active. If Sceptile never hits the active spot fully energized, the deck stalls and cannot threaten its high-end flip damage.
Sceptile's guaranteed output is only 70 damage. Bulky ex targets with 150-plus HP survive a tails flip and force the Sceptile player to rely on consecutive heads. High-HP ex attackers that two-shot Sceptile win the point exchange: your 2-point score versus their 1-point loss.
Fragrant Forest is central to energy acceleration. Playing your own stadium replaces it and slows Sceptile's energy load. Without consistent energy, Leaf Blade arrives late and the deck struggles to threaten one-shots before the game's momentum tips away.
