Mimikyu ex uses its Disguise ability to absorb one attack for free, buying turns to set up Claw Slash for 70 damage while supporting Pokemon like Greninja and Giratina ex cover mid-game board pressure. The goal is to trade knockouts efficiently, using Disguise to prevent your opponent from scoring 2 points on their first swing.
Open by getting Mimikyu ex into the active spot immediately — Disguise triggers only once per time it enters play, so you want the first hit negated right away. Use Professor's Research, Copycat, and Rare Candy in parallel to assemble the Greninja line from Froakie, giving you a Stage 2 attacker behind the protected Mimikyu ex. Peculiar Plaza and Cyrus provide positioning, letting you drag threats into range for Claw Slash once Disguise has been consumed. Giratina ex provides a heavy backup attacker when the Mimikyu ex has taken its first hit.
Send Mimikyu ex active from turn one. Disguise prevents the first damage it takes, meaning your opponent wastes a full attack turn. Use that window to play Professor's Research, attach energy, and develop your bench with Froakie. You gain a free tempo swing at the game's most critical juncture.
While Mimikyu ex absorbs the first hit, develop Froakie on the bench and use Rare Candy to evolve to Greninja, giving you a Stage 2 attacker ready before Mimikyu ex is actually knocked out. Cyrus and Peculiar Plaza position targets for Claw Slash or the Greninja follow-up.
Giratina ex appears in 73.58% of lists as a single copy backup. After Mimikyu ex and Greninja have done their work, bring in Giratina ex to close out the final point. Its higher HP and attack power cover situations where the opponent has survived the earlier exchange and still needs one more knockout to end the game.
Disguise only blocks one hit. Attack Mimikyu ex twice to nullify the ability and still score the knockout. Decks with two cheap attacks or spread damage absorb the first wasted swing and complete the KO on turn two, denying Mimikyu ex any tempo advantage from Disguise.
Aerodactyl ex posts a 69% win rate against this deck. Once Disguise has blocked one attack, Aerodactyl ex can likely one-hit-KO Mimikyu ex on the next swing given its 120 HP. This also scores 2 points in a single move, racing to 3 points faster than Claw Slash's 70-damage pace can match.
Mimikyu ex's plan depends on Greninja developing safely on the bench behind the Disguise shield. Attack Froakie on the bench through spread effects or use Sabrina to pull it active. Denying the Stage 2 evolution leaves Claw Slash at 70 damage with no backup attacker to close the game.
