Strengths

  • Adamantine Rolling grants damage reduction and Weakness immunity for the opponent's entire next turn, making Mega Steelix ex extremely difficult to KO in a single hit.
  • 220 HP is among the highest in the format, requiring enormous sustained damage output to bring down even without the Adamantine Rolling protection.
  • 75% win rates against Oricorio, Goodra, and Vanilluxe show the tank plan dominates slower or lower-damage archetypes.

Weaknesses

  • Mega Steelix ex being KOd gives the opponent 3 points and wins the game instantly — there is no recovery from this loss.Mega KO = lose
  • A four-energy attack cost makes Mega Steelix ex entirely dependent on Brock for energy acceleration; losing Brock stalls the deck completely.Deckbuilding
  • Zygarde ex and Incineroar ex post 75% and 70% win rates respectively against this deck, representing reliable structural counters.Matchup
  • Retreat cost of 4 means Mega Steelix ex cannot be switched out without external help, locking it into unfavorable positions.Other

Key Moves & Abilities

Adamantine Rolling(Mega Steelix ex)
120

During your opponent's next turn, this Pokémon takes damage from attacks and has no Weakness.

Strategy Guide

Auto-generated

Mega Steelix ex wins by activating Adamantine Rolling to deal 120 damage while gaining damage reduction and Weakness immunity for the opponent's next turn, creating a near-unkillable tank that the opponent must spend multiple turns dismantling. Knocking out Mega Steelix ex awards the opponent 3 points — an instant win — so the primary goal is to never let that happen.

Open by searching Onix with Poké Ball and developing the bench with Indeedee ex. Brock provides energy acceleration so Mega Steelix ex can fire Adamantine Rolling — which costs four energy — as early as possible. Use Pokémon Center Lady and Lucky Ice Pop to heal between turns, so the damage reduction from Adamantine Rolling combines with active healing to make Mega Steelix ex virtually unkillable while active. Cyrus and the singleton Copycat manage hand quality and target selection, while Heavy Helmet punishes opponent attackers that swing into your board.

Damage Math

Opponent's active

Adamantine Rolling 120 dmg base

Combined with next-turn damage reduction and Weakness immunity, Mega Steelix ex trades favorably against most attacks it absorbs in return

How to Play

Loop Adamantine Rolling Every Turn

Fire Adamantine Rolling each turn to deal 120 damage and activate the protection window. On the opponent's turn they attack into a damage-reduced, Weakness-immune Mega Steelix ex. Pokémon Center Lady and Lucky Ice Pop then remove whatever damage got through, resetting the HP bar. Repeat this loop until you have scored enough points to win.

Accelerate Energy with Brock

Adamantine Rolling requires four energy, which is too slow for manual attachment. Brock provides the energy acceleration that makes this attack reachable quickly. Getting Brock into your hand as early as possible is the primary setup priority — use Professor's Research and Copycat to find it.

Tax Opponents with Heavy Helmet

Heavy Helmet is in 97.67% of lists, attaching to your Pokemon to deal damage back to attackers that hit them. Combined with Adamantine Rolling's protection and healing, this creates a layered tax on every attack the opponent throws at Mega Steelix ex. Attackers with multiple small hits rather than one large hit take consistent Heavy Helmet chip damage.

How to Beat This Deck

Attack on the Turn Adamantine Rolling Was Not Used

The damage reduction only lasts one opponent turn after Mega Steelix ex attacks. If Mega Steelix ex ever skips an attack — due to energy disruption or a forced switch — that protection does not apply. Time your biggest offensive turns for when the tank is unprotected to break through its otherwise impenetrable defense.

Use Zygarde ex or Incineroar ex for Structural Wins

Zygarde ex posts 75% and Incineroar ex 70% win rates against Mega Steelix ex. These archetypes have the damage output or type matchup to push through 220 HP plus healing. Running either of these attackers gives you a structural advantage that healing and Heavy Helmet cannot fully compensate for.

CountersZygarde exIncineroar ex

Disrupt Brock to Strand the Energy Requirement

Without Brock, Mega Steelix ex cannot pay four energy per turn through manual attachment alone and falls behind the attack schedule entirely. Cyrus or Mars can disrupt the opponent's hand before Brock is played, forcing them to draw into it again. Even one turn without Adamantine Rolling is a full vulnerability window.
