Greninja ex uses its Shifting Stream ability to rotate Water attackers freely, setting up Aqua Edge for consistent 100-damage turns. The win condition is knocking out two of your opponent's Pokemon before they can neutralize your Stage 2 line.
Open by benching Froakie and using Poké Ball to secure your Basic. Use Professor's Research and Copycat to draw into Rare Candy so you can skip Frogadier and evolve directly to Greninja ex. Misty and Irida accelerate Water energy attachment mid-game. Once Greninja ex is active, Shifting Stream lets you swap to a fresh attacker whenever one takes damage, preserving your attackers across multiple turns and denying easy knockouts.

Froakie is your only Basic, so Poké Ball finds it reliably. Rare Candy then lets you evolve directly to Greninja ex, bypassing Frogadier entirely. Stack Professor's Research and Copycat early to dig for both pieces before turn 3 if possible.
Activate Shifting Stream every turn a Water Pokemon takes damage. Moving a wounded attacker to the bench resets the knockout clock, forcing your opponent to redirect and spend extra turns. Pair this with Giant Cape to increase Greninja ex's effective HP and make rotations even more punishing.
Cyrus switches your opponent's Active into their bench, pulling up a low-HP or unenergized target. Combined with Aqua Edge's 100 damage, this frequently scores a knockout the same turn you use it, swinging the point race in your favor.
Greninja ex cannot function without Froakie surviving to evolve. Aggressive early pressure on the Froakie sitting on the bench eliminates the entire plan. Sabrina or Cyrus can pull Froakie active as soon as it appears, preventing the Rare Candy play entirely.
Both Greninja ex copies award 2 points on knockout. Rush the opponent's Greninja ex with high-damage attackers before Shifting Stream gets going. Scoring one Greninja ex KO immediately creates match point pressure that forces suboptimal rotations.
Decks running Annihilape or Kingambit post 75% win rates against Greninja ex. Use hard-hitting Fighting or Dark attackers that outpace 100-damage Aqua Edge. Forcing them to use Shifting Stream on a Pokemon that still gets KOd the following turn negates the ability's value.
