Leafeon ex wins by using its Forest Breath ability to attach a free Grass Energy each turn from the active spot, accelerating the board for Solar Beam and teammates like Teal Mask Ogerpon ex while Leaf Cape and Giant Cape extend HP thresholds. The deck builds steady energy leads and converts them into KOs faster than the opponent can respond.
Open by searching Eevee with Poké Ball and evolving it into Leafeon ex as quickly as possible. Once Leafeon ex reaches the active spot, Forest Breath fires every turn for a free Grass Energy attachment to any Grass Pokemon. Use this to load a second Leafeon ex or Teal Mask Ogerpon ex on the bench. Mid-game, Leaf Cape raises Leafeon ex's effective HP while Erika and Sabrina provide recovery and targeting options. Close by maintaining a fully energized board and applying 70-damage Solar Beam pressure, pivoting to Teal Mask Ogerpon ex when a different angle is needed.
Get Leafeon ex into the active spot by turn 2. Forest Breath then attaches a free Grass Energy to any Grass Pokemon each turn, creating an energy surplus. Load the second Leafeon ex or Teal Mask Ogerpon ex on the bench to prepare a fully energized attacker before the first one is threatened. Eevee Bag aids Eevee-line consistency.
Leaf Cape on Leafeon ex pushes its effective HP significantly. Giant Cape provides similar bulk on secondary targets. Combined with retreat cost 1, Leafeon ex can attack, absorb a hit, and pivot to the bench if needed without stranding energy. Erika recovers HP directly during critical turns to extend Leafeon ex's attacking window.
Forest Breath only triggers when Leafeon ex is in the active spot. Any effect that forces a switch — putting Leafeon ex to the bench or pulling a different Pokemon active — shuts off the free energy for that turn. Repeated disruption of the active position stalls the energy engine and prevents the bench attacker from becoming ready.
Leafeon ex cannot function without Eevee to evolve from. Knocking out Eevee on the bench before it evolves forces the opponent to draw into the second copy. With only 2 Eevee in most lists, eliminating one early significantly delays the Forest Breath setup and reduces the deck's ability to accelerate energy.
At 140 HP, Leafeon ex falls within reach of two-hit KO strategies, especially fire-type attackers that exploit grass weakness. Ho-Oh ex matchups sit at 27%, confirming fire-type pressure is highly effective. KOing Leafeon ex quickly for 2 points forces the opponent onto their secondary attacker with less energy acceleration.
