Weavile ex is a darkness-type Stage 1 ex that deals 70 damage with Scratching Nails when the opponent's Active Pokemon already has damage on it. The win condition is pre-damaging targets with chip tools or Darkrai ex, then swapping in Weavile ex to score KOs that would normally require far more energy.
Open by benching Sneasel with Poké Ball and attaching a darkness energy immediately. Use Professor's Research and Copycat to draw into Weavile ex and Darkrai ex. Rocky Helmet and chip-damage sources apply prior damage to the opponent's Active Pokemon before Weavile ex attacks, activating the Scratching Nails 40-damage bonus. Dawn supports energy transfer between benched and Active Pokemon, and Guzma forces an opponent's damaged benched target into the Active Spot so Weavile ex can clean it up for a 2-point score. Red and Repel add further disruption to hold off counters while you execute the combo.
Opponent Active Pokemon with any prior damage
Scratching Nails base 30 + damage-present bonus 40 = 70
Rocky Helmet or Darkrai ex passive damage counts as prior damage; ensure the condition is met before attacking
Scratching Nails deals 70 only when the target already has damage. Play Rocky Helmet before the opponent attacks into you, ensuring every contact applies chip damage. Use Darkrai ex to add pressure passively. Once a target is nicked, bring Weavile ex active to capitalize on the 70-damage output with one energy.
Opponents will bench damaged Pokemon to avoid the Scratching Nails bonus. Guzma forces one of your opponent's benched Pokemon — ideally a damaged one — into the Active Spot, letting Weavile ex immediately score a KO. Repel prevents pivot switching on the opponent's side after you've invested energy in the setup.
Scratching Nails is a conditional attack. If you never let Weavile ex's target accumulate damage — by keeping healthy Pokemon active and healing chip damage immediately — Weavile ex is stuck at 30 damage per turn. Pokémon Center Lady or healing items deployed every turn negate the bonus entirely.
Weavile ex has only 140 HP. Greninja ex is a water-type ex that can apply consistent pressure and score 2 points on a Weavile ex KO. Given that 3 points wins the game, scoring 2 from one Weavile ex KO followed by any 1-point KO closes the game in two turns.
Rocky Helmet triggers only when the opponent's Pokemon attacks Weavile ex through direct contact. Attackers with bench-snipe or passive spread effects apply damage without triggering Rocky Helmet, denying Weavile ex the self-chip it needs to activate Scratching Nails on the following turn.
