Blaze Kick(Blaziken)
100

Discard a {R} Energy from this Pokémon.

Strategy Guide

Auto-generated

Blaziken uses Blaze Kick for 100 damage with a mandatory fire energy discard, supported by Flame Patch to recover the discarded energy and sustain repeated 100-damage swings. The win condition is knocking out targets at the 100-damage threshold before the forced discard drains your energy supply.

You open by using Poké Ball to find Torchic, then develop the Torchic-to-Blaziken line through natural draw or Rare Candy to skip Combusken. Flame Patch attaches a fire energy from your discard pile back to your Active fire Pokemon, compensating for the energy Blaze Kick discards each use. Giovanni adds 10 damage to push Blaziken over relevant HP thresholds. Pokémon Center Lady recovers HP to keep Blaziken in the Active Spot for back-to-back Blaze Kicks. X Speed reduces retreat cost when you need to swap attackers. Sabrina pulls a high-value target into the Active Spot before you swing for 100.

Damage Math

Any Active Pokemon — Blaze Kick with Giovanni

base 100 + Giovanni 10 = 110 total

Giovanni is the only confirmed damage buff in the top build; use it to hit thresholds that Blaziken's base 100 misses.

Strengths

  • Blaze Kick hits 100 base damage from a Stage 2, matching or exceeding the HP of many non-ex Pokemon for clean one-shot knockouts.
  • Flame Patch recovers discarded fire energy from the discard pile and attaches it back to the Active fire Pokemon, keeping the attack loop sustainable.
  • Rare Candy lets you skip Combusken and reach Blaziken in two turns instead of three, partially compensating for the Stage 2 setup time.

Weaknesses

  • Blaze Kick discards a fire energy every use — without Flame Patch in hand, you cannot attack the following turn.Consistency
  • Blaziken is a Stage 2 with only 9 tournament lists analyzed; the small sample and 33% win rate indicate severe matchup and consistency issues at high level.Deckbuilding
  • Decidueye ex, Chandelure, and Sceptile all sit at 25-26% win rate — these unfavorable matchups out-tempo or out-power the fire energy loop.Matchup

How to Play

Establish the Energy Loop with Flame Patch

Keep Flame Patch available to recycle the fire energy Blaze Kick discards. Flame Patch attaches a fire energy from your discard pile to your Active fire Pokemon, restoring the discarded energy in the same turn cycle. Without Flame Patch in hand, the second Blaze Kick requires a new manual attachment — a one-turn gap that an opponent can exploit with a knockout.

Use Rare Candy to Accelerate the Evolution Line

Poké Ball finds Torchic, and Rare Candy skips Combusken to put Blaziken directly into play from your hand. This shaves a full turn off the setup compared to normal evolution. Professor's Research and natural draw are your tools for finding Rare Candy and Blaziken itself after Torchic is benched.

Extend Blaziken's Active Turns with Giovanni and Pokémon Center Lady

Giovanni pushes Blaze Kick from 100 to 110 damage, crossing KO thresholds for bulkier non-ex targets. Pokémon Center Lady heals Blaziken between attacks to keep it from falling to chip damage or Rocky Helmet retaliation. Sabrina pulls a weakened target into the Active Spot so you convert a partial-HP target into a knockout without wasting the energy discard.

How to Beat This Deck

Disrupt the Fire Energy Supply

Blaze Kick discards a fire energy every attack. If you can force Torkoal to the Active Spot through Sabrina and knock it out before Flame Patch recovers the discarded energy, the Blaziken player is forced to manually attach energy, losing a full attack turn before they can Blaze Kick again.

CountersSabrina

Knock Out Torchic Before It Evolves

Torchic has low HP as a Basic Pokemon. Any turn you can deal enough damage to Torchic before Rare Candy or natural evolution reaches Blaziken removes the primary attacker entirely. Blaziken lists run only two Torchic copies — eliminating one early forces the opponent to rely on a single Blaziken line.

Apply Water-Type Pressure to Exploit Type Weakness

Blaziken is a fire type weak to Water attacks. Water-focused decks can exploit type advantage to KO Blaziken before the fire energy loop is established. Bring a water attacker with enough bulk to survive a 100-damage Blaze Kick response.

Common Substitutions

Evolution line completion

  • Combusken:The top build runs only 1 copy; Rare Candy frequently skips it, but a second copy adds insurance if Rare Candy is not drawn.
