Discard 3 {R} Energy from this Pokémon.
Blacephalon ex is a Basic fire ex attacker that either burns the opponent with Singe for 1 energy or detonates for 140 damage with Pop-Punk at the cost of discarding 3 fire energy. The win condition is reloading Blacephalon ex with Flame Patch and supporting items to repeatedly threaten 140-damage bursts and 2-point scores on ex targets.
Open by deploying Blacephalon ex as your active Pokemon — it is a Basic and requires no setup. Tandemaus and Maushold occupy the bench as backup. Use Flame Patch to attach a fire energy from the discard pile back onto your active fire Pokémon, recovering from the self-discard cost of Pop-Punk. Lusamine and Rescue Scarf provide additional recovery support to maintain momentum after each Pop-Punk discard. Starting Plains provides stadium support to keep the plan running across turns.
Pop-Punk standard hit
140 damage, costs 3 Fire energy which are discarded
Full output requires 3 fire energy attached; Flame Patch recovers one fire energy from the discard pile to your active fire Pokémon
Pop-Punk discards 3 fire energy after every use. Flame Patch recovers a fire energy from the discard pile onto your active fire Pokémon, helping reload for another Pop-Punk turn. Lusamine and Rescue Scarf provide further recovery tools to sustain repeated high-damage attacks.
Each Pop-Punk turn burns through energy and trainers. Lusamine appears in 92% of lists and, once the opponent has scored at least 1 point, attaches 2 random energy from your discard pile to one of your Ultra Beasts. This sustains the energy reload loop and keeps the threat of another 140-damage Pop-Punk alive throughout the match.
Before 3 fire energy are attached, use Singe for just 1 energy to apply burn to the opponent's active Pokemon. Burn deals end-of-turn damage and forces the opponent to respond, buying turns. Even if burn damage is modest, it chips down targets and sometimes forces a heal, slowing their setup.
Blacephalon ex is helpless after Pop-Punk without 3 fire energy reloaded. Disrupting Flame Patch access — via hand disruption or forcing the opponent to use recovery items too early — delays the reload cycle by multiple turns. Without energy, Blacephalon ex can only use Singe, which does not threaten KOs on most ex targets.
Tandemaus and Maushold occupy bench slots and provide auxiliary threats. Knocking them out forces the opponent into a one-Pokemon gameplan centered solely on Blacephalon ex. Removing bench targets with Sabrina or spread damage reduces the opponent's flexibility and makes their Pop-Punk cycle easier to predict and play around.
Rescue Scarf returns Blacephalon ex to the opponent's hand if knocked out by damage. If you can score the 2-point KO on a turn when Rescue Scarf has not been equipped, Blacephalon ex goes to the discard pile permanently. Watch for unequipped turns and time your knockout accordingly.
